One of my favorite ways to "get away" or relax is listening to music and driving. It is the freedom to go wherever you want and the freedom to sing out loud (without anyone listening).
When I first began driving, one of my favorite things to do was listen to my favorite music and drive. Sometimes I would take the longer, more scenic route to my destination or just head down the highway. It was my time to "get away" and reflect on my life and where it is headed. I still love to do that, but as a mom, I rarely get that chance.
I still remember when I was growing up and my favorite song came on the radio (or 8-track or cassette), I would sing and dance. Back then, we didn't wear seat belts so we could dance more freely in the car. Oh, the memories!
I remember being a teenager and driving with my friends. When our favorite song came on we would all sing along... LOUD! We would roll down the windows and sing along… we thought we were so cool!
Any Van Halen song(with David Lee Roth) brings back memories of my best friend from high school. She was in love with David Lee Roth and her room was covered in Van Halen and David Lee Roth posters. When I say covered, I mean the walls, the doors, the ceiling, everything!
Music has a way of taking you back to where you were when you heard the song. Music sets the tone, it can create romance, excitement, calmness, sadness, anger and fear. It is amazing how some songs can bring about such strong emotions. For instance...
Three Times a Lady - I was 10 years old when my parents divorced. I was one of the lucky ones, my parents always put my sister and I ahead of their emotions. From my perspective, they got along well. Now I know they were both dealing with an enormous amount of hurt and pain. One image I will never forget is riding in the car with my dad. We were headed to his place for a “weekend with Dad” when the song Three Times a Lady came on the radio. I noticed a change in his demeanor, it was a sadness mixed with love and regret. He looked over at me and said, “This song reminds me of your mother.”
“Three Times A Lady”
Thanks for the times
That you've given me
The memories are all in my mind
And now that we've come
To the end of our rainbow
There's something
I must say out loud
You're once, twice
Three times a lady
Yes you're once twice
Three times a lady
As I listened to the words, I began to look at my mom and dad differently. I knew how hard this had been on him and I knew that he had to have great respect and love to feel that way about my mom. Not much was said between us, but the words in the song spoke volumes.
One of the Mom Missions I did while driving the Chevy Malibu was to share some music while we were in the car. So, my daughter and I created a special short video, we hope you enjoy it…
Wondering what music Cammie listens to when she is driving the Chevy?
Most of the time it comes from her daughter's iTouch, but occasionally, she takes a drive all on her own and listens to music she picks out.
I would love for you to share, either your favorite song or a song and a memory, in the comments below.
